Meet Artist Sisters Alpana and Anjana Rai at Inner West Art Fair 2026
I’m delighted to share that I will be exhibiting at the Inner West Art Fair 2026, held from 16–18 October at Williamstown Town Hall in Melbourne.
This year feels particularly special because I will be exhibiting alongside my sister and fellow artist, Anjana Rai. Although we have developed two distinct artistic styles, we share a deep love of nature, colour and the emotions held within landscapes.
The fair will give us a wonderful opportunity to present our work together, meet art lovers and share the individual stories behind our paintings.

Two sisters, two artistic voices
Anjana and I were both born in India and are now based in Melbourne, where our artistic journeys continue to develop in different yet beautifully connected ways.
Our shared cultural roots and appreciation of the natural world connect our practices, but our individual approaches are wonderfully different.
I create contemporary abstract landscape paintings using acrylics and mixed media. My work is inspired by the Australian landscape, personal memories and the emotions we attach to places. Through layered colour and expressive marks, I explore optimism, freedom, belonging and our relationship with nature.
Anjana is a Melboune-based visual artist who works primarily with oil paint and a palette knife. She creates richly textured, impressionistic paintings of flowers, landscapes and seascapes. Her thick layers of paint, flowing forms and expressive use of colour celebrate the beauty and energy of the natural world.

Although our work may look different, both of us create from an emotional response to nature rather than simply reproducing what we see. Exhibiting together at the Inner West Art Fair is a meaningful opportunity to celebrate both our connection as sisters and our individuality as artists.
What I’ll be sharing at the fair
I am preparing a carefully selected collection of original abstract landscape paintings for the fair, including colourful smaller works created for intimate spaces, shelves and gallery walls.
Rather than painting a landscape exactly as it appears, I respond to its colours, shapes, movement and atmosphere. I use acrylics and mixed media to build expressive layers that reflect memories, feelings and moments of connection with the Australian landscape.
My Indian roots and my experiences of building a life in Australia also quietly influence the way I see and interpret the land around me.
Visitors will be able to experience the surfaces, colours and details of these original paintings in person—something photographs can never fully capture.

Why meeting an artist in person matters
Buying original art is a personal experience. Sometimes we feel drawn to a painting immediately, even before we understand why.
Meeting an artist can add another layer to that connection by revealing the memories, emotions and experiences behind the artwork. It also allows collectors to ask questions about the materials, inspiration and creative decisions involved in making each piece.
As an introverted artist, painting has always been one of my most natural ways of expressing feelings that are difficult to explain in words. Each artwork holds something personal, while still leaving space for viewers to discover their own memories and meanings within it.
Anjana and I look forward to meeting visitors and hearing what they see and feel when they spend time with our paintings.
